Bomadi Bridge: Why Ibori was honoured as Izonfini-Owei (The one who opened up Ijaw land) of Akugbene-Mein Kingdom.

The Bomadi Bridge is the first bridge connecting Bomadi town, in Delta State Nigeria, to the main land through the Forcados river.

Client: Delta State Government

Area: Delta, Nigeria

Project Value 50 Million USD

Initiation Date February, 2001

Completion Date June, 2005

The bridge consists of 36 m long spans with a total length of 612 m that crosses the Forcados river with a clearance of 10m.

The bridge’s substructure rests on Ø1300mm bored piles where barges were used for Axis in water. The bridge’s superstructure consists of simply supported 36m pre-cast post-tensioned beams.

The beam’s method of erection for the Bomadi bridge was based on extensive studies relating to the site’s challenging constraints. Generally, the delivery of the precast post-tensioned beams to the erection front is the determinant that influences the method of the erection system to be adopted. Setraco utilized a beam launcher capable of receiving beams directly from behind or below the erection system.

With this erection method, strand and winch lifting units were utilized, providing a safe and precise placement of the beams, and allowing multiple degrees of alignment and efficient rates of erection.

The project was a first of its kind as a launching system in Nigeria. It was a big challenge and was delivered with complete satisfaction from the Client.

Initiated and completed by the Ibori Administration. 13 years later he was honoured for that great deed.

Ibori na man you be. Congratulations Izonfini-Owei of Akugbene-Mein Kingdom
