It was a carnival like atmosphere yesterday as renowned philanthropist and business mogul Comr. Andrew Evbie officially joined the largest party in Africa, the people's democratic party, through it's Ughelli North chapter.
The event which took place at the party secretariat Ughelli saw Andrew and member of his entourage arrive in a convoy of over15 exotic cars with his teeming Supporters and the Local government party chairman Lawrence Agbatutu on ground to receive him.
Wasting no time, Andrew who was accompanied by a leader of the party from Ndokwa East and National Secretary of Ndokwa Youth Snr. Comr. Idi Presley and a former house of assembly aspirant Ethiope West constituency, Comr. Oghenero Okpoji, went ahead to tell the chairman of the party while he has come to see them.
He stated that having been a PDP apologist and a staunch background supporter of the party, he felt now is the time for him to come out officially and align with the ideologies of the party, hence his decision to meet with the leadership of the party.
Speaking further, Comr. Andrew listed some of the projects he has privately done before in support of the party over the years, with his foundation conducting free medical care and scholarship given out in support and all PDP candidates in the last election.
He added that the massive stride and pace setting kind of leadership by his Excellency Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa especially in the areas of infrastructure and job creation was the final motivation he needed to come out openly and join forces with other members to grow the party.
In his response, the party chairman Lawrence Agbatutu thanked Andrew for his decision, and for finding the PDP platform the best amongst the rest.
He assured him that the umbrella is big enough to accommodate everyone and even though this is his first official visit to the party, whatever he is due, he will surely get it.
The chairman after charging him to be a very good ambassador of the party, made a plea for the payment of their long overdue rent, a request Andrew Evbie granted on the spot.
He was then registered officially as member of the party and presented with his party card by his ward chairman who was also present to receive him, the cheers that accompanied the presentation was defeaning, an indication that the pdp has gotten on their side a people's man.
From the secretariat, Andrew Evbie led his associates and crowd of supporters straight to Ogbovwan, where his community was putting together a grand reception in his honour.
The president general of the community who alongside his excos, opinion leaders, women and youths gathered to receive him, stated in his welcome address that the reception was put together to honour an illustrious son of the soil, and show solidarity with him and throw their weight behind him.
Thanking the leadership of the community for the privilege and honour, he pledged to be of service whenever he is called upon, assuring them that from now onwards, whatever is due the community from government, they will surely get.
Moved by compassion, he offered scholarship to Akor Oghenerunor and Ella ThankGod, promising to sponsor their education till their graduation from the University.
Not done with touching lives, he also pledged to construct and provide water for the community, with the work beginning immediately, he promised to do more for his people as well as extend to other communities within the local government.
