UNN'S 'DIGNITY OF HUMANI'TY' AWARD BESTOWED ON DELTA STATE GOVERNOR. By Latimore Oghenesivbe Fred
The rising political leadership and perersonality profile of the SMART GOVERNOR of Delta State, His Excellency Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, has been attributed to the sparkling leadership quality, foresight and excellent achievements made within a short period of two years in office and still counting.
Principal Secretary to Delta State Governor, Hilary Obi Ibegbulem made the assertion in a goodwill message to his amiable boss, mentor and elder brother, Gov Okowa of Delta State over the Dignity of Humanity Award bestowed on him by University of Nigeria (UNN).
He noted that the numerous high profile awards and recognitions heaped on the governor in recent time goes to show that whatever we do as individuals or group is closely monitored by the larger society, adding that the impressive two years and four months stewardship of Gov Okowa has endeared him to the hearts of millions of people, respectable institutions, global bodies and the mass media in Nigeria.
"His Excellency the Governor of Delta State, assumed office on 29th May 2015, with open heart and clean hands, prepared and ready to transform the state and take it to an enviable socioeconomic status.
"A pure heart produces enviable results and that's exactly what can be said about the remarkable achievements recorded so far with the meagre financial resources available since assumption of office.
"The good people of Delta State are aware of these financial predicaments occasioned by low crude oil prices, economic recession and other prevailing circumstances which hitherto slowed down development in the three tiers of government; federal, state and local government across the country; with few exceptions like Lagos State which earns over N50 billion IGR monthly, mainly from taxes earned from Seaports and blueship multi-national corporations. Lagos also top the list of highly indebted States in Nigeria in terms of loans and external borrowings.
"In the light of the above it can be safely asserted that the leadership ingenuity, integrity and good governance initiatives of Gov Okowa has reflected in good measures and positively impacted on the socioeconomic status of Deltans.
"The developmental policies encapsulated on the SMART AGENDA blueprints shall continue to facilitate gradual overall development of the three senatorial districts and twenty five local government areas in the state.
"It is glaring that the laudable achievemnts of Okowa administration consistently earned the Governor resounding ovations, accolades, recognitions and awards from national and international organisations as well as top class institutions such as; the United Nations Human Rights Committee via the Nelson Mandela Walk to Freedom Human Rights Award bestowed on Gov Okowa earlier in the year, the University of Ibadan 2017 Alumni Award and the most recent 'Dignity of Humanity' Award by the University of Nigeria, (UNN) plus other numerous prestigious awards and still counting.
"I am happy and grateful to God for His Right Hand upon our amiable governor and in the same token, I deeply appreciate the good people of Delta State for standing solidly behind the Governor they overwhelmingly elected in 2015 to serve them," Ibegbulem added.
In the same vein, Executive Assistant (Communications) to the Governor, Barrister Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe who is also a member of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), described the UNN "Dignity of Humanity" Award rightly bestowed on governor Okowa as a true reflection on the gains of good governance in Delta State, and the enviable contributions of the recipient to the development of the nation, the larger society and humanity in general.
"Our boss the SMART GOVERNOR of Delta State has remained the number one choice for Best awards in Nigeria in recent time because of his patriotic selfless service to Delta State and the nation, especially from his days and years at the National Assembly as Chairman, Senate Committee on Health; respect for human rights and dignity of persons, jobs and wealth creation policies and strategies which within two years and fours months created over 42,000 jobs for Deltans through the Youth Agriculture, Skills Training Entrepreneurship and Graduates Employment Enhancement Programmes (YAGEP, STEP and GEEP) respectively and still counting.
"It is also worthy of note that President Mohammadu Buhari upon return from his last medical checkup in London; had humorously, emotionally and sincerely remarked that Gov Okowa enjoys the best, most factual and enviable mass media positive ratings as a result of his advocacy for peace, unity of Nigeria, his superb leadership style and good governance initiatives.
"I humbly and respectfully congratulate our SMART GOVERNOR and the OZABOR of Oza-Nogogo, His Excellency Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, for attracting the best of positive quality image to Delta State and by extension to the entire South-South geopolitical zone through his numerous high profile awards," Oghenesivbe added.
