Okowa ‘ll still be Gov come 2019 – Urhobo group
The Urhobo Youth Employment Initiative, UYEI, has reiterated their total support and commitment towards the re-election of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa come 2019 gubernatorial election.
The group also maintained that the Governor’s good works in the state will earn him more support, votes and will also take him back to his merited seat.
The group also faulted the comment credited to Chief Great Ogboru in which he criticized certain factions of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state that are presently canvassing the zoning of the party’s gubernatorial ticket to Delta North Senatorial District.
Addressing newsmen in Effurun on Monday, the group through its spokesperson, Comrade Efemena Victor Ikutegbe claimed that “Ogboru” is not in a position to lecture anyone else on the issue of ethnicisation of politics in the state.
According to the group, “Neither Ogboru as an Urhobo nor someone from Delta North other than Delta State Governor, Senator Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa, will be Governor come 2019 since an Urhobo taking over from Okowa in 2019 will amount to cheating Delta North from completing their full tenure of eight years while another person from Delta North becoming Governor will endanger the just turn of Urhobo to return in 2023 because such person will certainly want to rule until 2027.”
While describing the opposition in Delta as “a Fuji House of Commotion populated by unserious politicians whose common denominator is their implacable hatred for one another,” the group allegedly opined that “Ogboru is preparing to mislead Urhobo into wasting their precious votes on him as some of our people have been blindly doing for over fifteen years, when as usual, he has no feasible plan to get into Government House.”
In entreating “all Urhobos to completely ignore Ogboru and his likes this time around and rally round Governor Okowa for a second term come 2019, preparatory to his handing over to Urhobo, come 2023,” the group equally urged “all Urhobo patriots to totally reject the idea of another person from Delta North coming to complete Delta North’s turn” because according to it “such person will certainly not agree to leave quietly in 2023, thus endangering Urhobo’s turn to return to Government House by then.”
Speaking further the group said that “Governor Okowa completing the turn of Delta North is the best option for equity for all Deltans,” the group insisted that “any other scenario will either shortchange Delta North or shortchange Delta Central.”
While noting that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa had so far delivered well on his mandate, the group poured encomiums on the Governor for “sustaining the legacy of his predecessors while blazing a unique trail of his own through his numerous projects and programs that directly impact on the common man and woman.”
Describing the governor as “a true friend of the youths through his admirable youth employment initiatives,” the group asserted that “with many Urhobo youths benefitting from Governror Okowa’s economic empowerment and entrepreneurial programs, we cannot abandon him simply on the basis of ethnic sentiments to support those who claim to be leaders in Urhobo yet have never done anything meaningful for our youths.”
While insisting on supporting Okowa “for a well deserved second term,” the group asserted that “Urhobos cannot afford at this late hour to go for someone else from Delta North that we the same Urhobos might end up having to fight come 2023 if he insists on a second term for himself, as is constitutionally provided for.”
