A MEMORIAL SERVICE: Kenya holds a ceremony to honor the last male northern white rhino



A memorial service to honor the world’s last male northern white rhino is held at Ol Pejeta Conservancy in northern Kenya on March 31, 2018.

Given the name Sudan, he died on March 19. He was 45.

The tombstone of Sudan is unveiled at the event, which gathers Kenyan wildlife officials and global wildlife conservationists, calling for more efforts in protecting endangered animals.

The last two females of the species are Sudan’s 27-year-old daughter Najin and 17-year-old granddaughter Fatu.
