SHOULD HIM BE LEFT ALONE? A HARDWORKING YOUNG DELTAN NEEDS YOU

And so in 1998, his father, Mr Eyeta Agbruru took two of his elder brothers: Nelson and late Josiah to me and he said; Tisha, someone said to me "that if you want your sons to succeed as students at Oginibo Secondary School, place them under the supervision of a young man named Matthew Tisha". Here are my two sons, help take care of them. Without a word, I accepted this responsibility with joy. I never knew that people have been watching my little diligence in my local academic pursuits back then as a village boy. That was how I came in contact with this family. We are not related, but true love and sincerity have kept us this long together. I rented a one room apartment for the two brothers close to my own mud house so that I can carry out my duty of supervising them academically. Later that year, another of their little brother- Ezekiel Eyeta came to join them as he was already aged to start his primary education. It is this young man that my appeal is all about.

Ezekiel, to me, appeared to be more serious with his books as he started reading and writing as early as when he was in primary 3. This was rare in the surrounding then. This endeared him to me as you hardly see such little ones in public schools with such capacities at the time within the LOCALs.  We became more close because of his intelligence and this extended our bond even to our place of worship. As life we have it, he finished his secondary education when his father was already too old to make any meaningful contributions financially, to further his education in any higher institution. Ezekiel had confided in me then, that he wanted to read LAW but for the lack of a sponsor.

His elder brother, Josiah who had given up on his own education pursuits for the sake of his younger brother to become a Lawyer resorted to commercial motor cycling, popularly known as OKADA.  He did this both in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state and later at home. When the young man felt he had done his best to change the fortunes of his family and yet nothing worth was seen close by; he took his own life in 2013 after he had written a letter addressed to his friends and family members that he had tried to make meaning from life, but life was never ready to respond.

After the death of Josiah, the complexities of young Ezekiel's life  tripled as the primary source of his daily bread had closed. Late 2013, the young man cried to me to help him find a way out of his life challenges. His other elder brother-Nelson, myself and him(Ezekiel) settled for learning a vocational trade. So, after some time, he returned to us that he was prepared to learn Welding And Fabrication. That was how he got enrolled at PETER AGADAGBA GROUP OF WELDING & FABRICATING COMPANY, UGHELLI, on concerted efforts of few with one of his aunts who at the initial stage of learning the trade was providing feeding. Ezekiel Eyeta met hell and suffered and suffered during the period, but his determination to conquer gave him the dedication to fight on, till he finished the trade 2017.

The story of young Ezekiel Eyeta, just like that of many others out there, reminds me of my years of little; yet challenges ridden beginning. What does Ezekiel need now? Ezekiel, today, to the glory of God is an Arc Welder(Structural/Industrial Welder), having been trained in Shielded Metal Arc Welding(SMAW) between 19th August 2013-2nd September, 2017. He is now in dire need of basic workshop tools to start on his own. He was with me few days ago and I know how deeply pained he was while narrating stories of how he had tried on his own to reach out to people for assistance, yet help is not seen nearby. There are youths out there whom Government has given such opportunity but sold all the equipment and tools as STARTER PACKS. However, here is a determined young man who means well for himself and future. Can this help come from a giving heart?

Who knows how God has prepared his way? He had  asked me to use this medium to reach out to concern Nigerians, the Delta state Government, religious leaders, politicians, businessmen and women and lovers of hard work to help him forget his beginning years. The cassava farm planted by his half-blooded elder brother-Nelson prior to his(Ezekiel) graduation in 2017 was utterly destroyed by Fulani Herdsmen at Iguelaba, Edo State. For fear of the unknown, the brother has since returned to the village. Their plan was to harvest and sell the produce and use the proceeds to start up Ezekiel. Now, that hope is gone. What is next?
