THE YOUTHS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED AHEAD POLITICAL PARTIES PRIMARIES IN 2019
The National Coordinator and convener of the Not Too Young To Lead Group have called on political parties to seriously consider the inclusion of youths in the electioneering process. Comrade Elvis Akpobi , the National Coordinator was speaking when he had an interactive session with youths in Delta State.
Comrade Elvis Akpobi enjoined political parties especially the PDP and APC to create opportunities for youths to aspire under their platforms. With the passage of the Not Too Young To Run Act, it will be criminal not to give opportunity to youths to run in elections.
He advocated that political parties should give nomination forms to youths free of charge in order for them to contest. He equally spoke against the high cost of nomination forms. The youth advocate gave assurances that Nigeria will be a better place if youths are given the opportunity to lead. The situation where the senior citizens are still the one calling the shots is sad and inimical to development.
However, Comrade Elvis Akpobi called on the Governors to continue to appoint youths into leadership position. He particularly commended the Governor of Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for appointing the youngest youth in Nigeria history as his Special Assistant on Special Duties at the age of 26. He also commended the Governor of Kaduna and Cross Rivers state for appointing youths.
Youth mainstreaming in the Nigerian political system is the focus of the advocacy programme which the organization the ‘Not Too Young To Lead’ is embarking on and currently it is on a road tour across the 25 Local Government area of Delta State.
