Asaba Again 2018: Rhythm of Okowa Again 2019 and Synonyms of Success

By Etolor Anslem

Once again the city of Asaba came alive as Stephen Keshi Stadium played host to the Nigeria Football Federation for the AITEO Cup final between Rangers football club of Enugu and Kano Pillars.

The game which ended 3:3 at full time, saw Rangers winning the trophy after a penalty shootout that  ended 4:3 in their favour.

Just as we had beautiful musical performance at the African Senior Athletics Championship, the local organizers once again brought life to the stadium with sensational performance by Nigeria music stars Phyno and Simi as well as  display of fireworks that rented the sky after the games.

Only two months ago, the city of Asaba was on a lock down when it hosted Africa at the just concluded 21st African Senior Athletics Championships which held from 1st to 5th August 2018 at the Stephen Keshi Stadium.

In all of these, one man made it possible by ensuring that words are backed by actions. During the finals of the African Senior Athletics Championship in August, Gov Okowa made an appeal that the NFF should consider using the Stephen Keshi Stadium for Super Eagle matches and other engagements. Stating empathetically that's the Stadium was not yet completed but his administration is committed to ensuring that facilities needed for the stadium to meet with international standards will be put in place such as flood lights and scoreboards etc.

Ekwueme as he is fondly called stayed true to his words by ensuring that the facilities for the football section of the stadium were put in place and in my interactions with one of the technical officials of Rangers football club, who doesn't want his name on print said he is impressed at what is on ground in the stadium and that the facilities are 2018 versions which you can find anywhere else.

For lovers of fun, yesterday was an awesome experience for them after the August experience. They had time to relax after work in a conducive natural environment with complete blend of exciting football and music performance which is one sure way to cool off oneself after a stressful day at work.

Therefore, for an achiever, it is traditional for Dr Ifeanyi Okowa to get a second term, so as to consolidate on the achievements of the last three years. Deltans are surely in a vantage position to assess the performance of this administration in terms of deliverables and not media propaganda by the opposition who have no blueprint for the state order than the desire to gain state power.

Okowa came prepared for governance with a clear understanding of the issues in question and a shear determination to provide workable solutions to problems identified as captured in the SMART Agenda of the administration.

Let us replicate success by ensuring that Gov Okowa is reelected in 2019 so as to continue with the rhythm of good governance.
