YEASAP OFFICIALLY FLAGGED-OFF IN UGHELLI SOUTH
The Chairman of Ughelli South Local Government Dr Richard Kofi says that his administration is poised at making Ughelli South a business hub where indigenes of the council area are equipped with the requisite skills and training that will generate wealth as well as move council on the path of sustainable economy.
Dr Richard Kofi stated this on Monday after flagging off the Youth Enterpreneural, Agricultural, Skill Acquisition Programmes - YEASAP at the Ughelli South council Secretariat.
Kofi further mentioned that upon assumption in office, he noticed that there was increasing rates of unemployment and to tackle the problem of unemployment, he set up a committee which later recommended skills acquisition training as one way to get the people empowered.
Dr Kofi added that the empowerment training is in line with Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s SMART agenda.
The Ughelli South Council Boss disclosed that his administration wishes to empower about four thousand youths with requisite skills and training that will make them self reliance.
He admonished the trainees to maximize the opportunity of the empowerment training to better their lots which in turn help to drive Ughelli South on the path of sustainable economy growth.
For their parts, the chairman of the Youth Entrepreneurial, Agricultural, Skills Acquisition Programmes – YEASAP Chief Benson Itietie said that the objective of the training is to take the youths off the streets as well as curb youths restiveness.
Speaking in a similar vein, the director general of the empowerment scheme YEASAP – Hon. Precious Onome Ejenake noted that the training programme is Envision to provide the skill and knowledge to youths of Ughelli South so that they can recognize and use the resources around them for their holistic empowerment.
He also explained that YEASAP is a practical demonstration of the Dr Richard kofi (Chairman, Ughelli South Local Government Council) commitment towards addressing youth redundancy and unemployment in the Local Government area. It is meant to create silos of youth engagement with government, based on vision and aspirations of youth themselves- Stating that it’s Design to educate, correct, encourage, inspire, motivate, train and support youth to take up agriculture as business, building the capacity of youths and funding their business ideas. He further mentioned that YEASAP will accelerate the development of the local government area by providing expertise and support in the planning and execution of human capital and infrastructural development programmes.
A resource person Mr Amos Obi, from the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals SDGs said that the trainees need to know what is required to succeed in the twenty first century as an entrepreneur.
Some of the trainees of the empowerment programme thanked the Ughelli South Council chairman for putting together the training.
YEASAP has different programmes which have the potentials of integrating the values of good and productive citizenship among youth; motivating them to lead a decent life by providing them with the platform to develop and showcase their skills in the following areas:
• AGRICULTURE (Crop production, Fishery, livestock, agro-processing, e.t.c.)
• ICT services( computer hardware maintainance, smart phones, PC Tablets, e.t.c.)
• Welding and fabrication
• POP, inter-locking tiling, e.t.c.
• Fashion Design/Dress making, bead making, e.t.c.
• Paint production
• Production of soap, perfumes and disinfectants
• Catering/Confectionaries/Baking
• Decoration and event management
• Hair Dressing, Makeup and Gele.
• Shoe and Bag Making
• Hair Barbing
