NAPS TAKES NATIONWIDE CAMPAIGN AGAINST FEMALE VICTIMIZATION AND SEXUAL MOLESTATION TO ABIA STATE
The leadership of NAPS yesterday 20th of September 2019 took the NAPS Nationwide Campaign against Female Victimization and Sexual Molestation on Campus to Abia state, the movement which is aimed at raising awareness on the subject, sanitizing the public and preparing and engaging management of respective institutions on a way to curb these menace visited Abia State Polytechnic Aba and Harvard Wilson College of Education Aba respectively in a bid to partner both managements on programs and modalities to raise awareness on female victimization and sexual molestation on campus and checkmate same.
Upon arrival at Abia State Polytechnic Aba, the Director of Mobilization and Strategic Engagements of NAPS who also is the Chairman, NAPS Nationwide Campaign Committee on Female Victimization and Sexual Molestation, Comrade Dio Oghale Emeka Rex and his team was received by the Students Union Government whom hosted the team in a warm reception at the Elephant house SUG secretariat.
The Students Union Government led the delegates to the management for a strategic engagement to discuss on how management can be contribute her own quarter.
The Rector Professor Ezionye Eboh who was represented by the Deputy Rector (Academics) Dr Chikwendu S. Mpamugo firstly apologized for the unavoidable absence of the Rector while he extol the leadership of NAPS for this great initiative, going further the management pledged their total support and partnership to make the nationwide campaign a reality.
The NAPS delegates in same vein and for same purpose visited Harvard Wilson College of Education Aba, the Provost Dr Mrs Adaugo Uko received the delegation and also affirm the unflinching support of the management and students union government of the institution.
However upon arrival at Abia state polytechnic aba, the leadership met on ground a lingering crisis between the state government, management and the Nigeria Labour Congress Abia state chapter.
The crisis which happens to be as a result of termination of job of 258 staff of the institution(non teaching and teaching), due to overstaffing and forgery of credential by some, the NLC have called on a partial strike for Monday 23rd of September 2019.
Dio Oghale Emeka Rex while addressing the issue at the meeting with the management said, “our students have overtime suffered a lot from the hands of both management and government for issues that aren’t related or traceable to us, the management should as matter of urgency and necessity come to a round table discussion, dialogue, chat a way forward and have a resolve so nothing we temper the academic calendar of our students, or else the leadership of NAPS will be left with no other option than relocating the national secretariat to the institution and the state as well, he said.
The Deputy Rector who gave a vote of thanks to the NAPS delegates assured that management are seriously working tirelessly and tremendously to ensure the issue is resolved amicably without the school calendar been tempered.
