OPERATION AMOTEKUN AND THE NIGER DELTA STRUGGLE by Jackson Kerry
Nigeria of today as it is constituted,is built on fraud and anything that is built on fraud cannot stand .It therefore means that Nigeria as a country will eventually break up ,it is just a matter of time ,unless it is properly restructured to reflect true federalism.
With the launch of operation Amoketun a security outfit by the Governors & elites of the South West States, the region is now fully ready for independence.
The big question is, What then is the fate of the South South region whose resource are being used to develop the other region of the Country. What are our leaders doing for us to survive in the eventual break up of the country or advent of true federalism?
When Chief James Onanefe Ibori was the Governor of Delta State, he championed the course of resource control by the various region ,but he was brought down by his own brothers and kinsmen of the South South region .At the end of the day,we manage to get 13% derivation for the oil producing States which is still being enjoyed by those States till date.
Operarion Amotekun was launched on Thursday January 9th.2020.not just for security purposes but also for the economy integration of the Zone, immediately after it was launched, the federal Government controlled by the fulanis, through the Attorney-General of the federation and Minister of Justice ,Abubakar malami, SAN declared the outfit as illegal on Tuesday January 14th,2020.
The Northerners especially the fulanis always profit from crime and rigging in all areas of life that any reasonable human being should not engage in .They cheat openly with impunity.
They have conquered/dominated this country ,though it took them so many years of planning, as such they do not want the country to break up. Therefore ,any move by any region for integration is seen as a threat to the Nation .No wonder Abukakar Malami declared the outfit as illegal .
Unlike our leaders in the Niger Deltan States ,the leaders in the South west rose against Abubakar Malami ,saying that Operatoon Amotekun has come to stay despite opposition to the outfit by the Army and the Nigeria Police.
Noble laureate, Prof.Wole Soyinka and the Aare Ona kakanfo of Yoruba land ,Iba Gani Adams both said anyone opposed to the security outfit is an enemy of the south west .Even the people of Benue State and indeed the people of the entire middle belt said, they were not opposed to operation Amotekun, saying they were even prepared to emulate the initiative.
The leaders and the Businessmen from the South South region must take responsibility for the development and economic integration of the region.
The present situation where 80% of the money bags in the region are indigenes while 80% of the Businesses are owned by non -indigenes -Ibos,fulanis ,hausa ,Yorubas e.t.c Must Stop .We must embrace the local Content and indigenous Contractors of the Federal Government. In other words, We must develop our region.
What then is the way forward for the South South region ? .The different between Here and There is T which represents time .In no distance time ,Nigeria will break up.are we as a region prepared for this ?(im not a prophet of doom but stating the obvious).Just like the people of the Middle Belt ,We must as a matter of urgency emulate the South west region by setting up our dead industries to be revamped e.g.Delta steel company ,Asaba textile company e.t.c.All our ports must be made functional, from Warri to Koko to Port to Calabar Ports .Apapa port alone generates about #2trillion annually, yet we have over 10ports in the region .We should as a people fight for the Koko -Epe coastal road that will take less than an hour from Delta State to Lagos State.
Finally ,our leaders should be United and of one mind for us to achieve economic integration and independence. Let us rise up with bold face to face the other regions. It is difficult but it is a task that must be done . #thinkingaloud. Jackson Kerry
