WHY DELTA TURNED DOWN NLC'S N2B BID FOR DELTA LINE Victor Sorokwu

Delta state governor Ifeanyi Okowa has debunked allegations that the state transporter Delta Line was sold off for political patronage God Is Good Motors for N161 million even though NLC had bid N2 billion and 40 new buses.

His chief press secretary  Aniagwu Charles said the line was not viable and in huge debt, compelling the state to divest its 60% stake to God is Good, a private transporter.

Aniagwu said the primary considerations for the sale were not pecuniary, but how to re-invent the line for greater efficiency and profitability.

According to him, the decision to partner with GIG was borne from the company's track record in road transport business, in contrast to Labour's performance in the same industry.

Aniagwu explained that the NLC apart from bidding six month late didn’t have the proven technical, operational and managerial competence to run such  a company, stressing that the state government was interested in ensuring that Delta Line was run by competent hands that would ensure its continuous existence.
