US EMBASSY, CHANNELS ACADEMY TRAINING FOR GOVERNMENT SPOKESPERSONS ENDS IN ABUJA. By Latimore Fred Oghenesivbe

...US GOVT PARTNERING WITH FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO STRENGTHEN DEMOCRATIC INSTITUTIONS IN NIGERIA  - RUSSELL BROOKS.

Abuja:  United States Government has again assured public and private sectors in Nigeria of its unalloyed support and partnership in strethening democratic institutions in the country.

US Embassy Spokesperson, Russell Brooks gave the assurance while speaking at the closing ceremony of a five-day capacity building training programme for governments pokespersons.

"United States will continue to assist Nigeria to develop and strenthen democratic institutions and the private sector," Russell said.

He urged participants to be proactive in communicating messages and policies of government to the public by adopting  strategic and positive techniques to promote good governance.

International Communication Expert and seminar facilitator, Mr Eduardo Cue emphasised the need to set up, what he called "State Communication Coordinating Committee (SCCC)" to enhamce effective and result oriented synergy among government spokespersons at states and federal levels.

"In order to avoid conflict of interests, multiple functions where there is more than one spokesperson within the government; it is very important to put in place 'State Communication Coordinating Committee.' The committee members must meet regularly to review performance, share information and ideas,"  he said.

Participants learnt special skills on how to develop information and communication strategy framework, crisis communication strategies, et al.

Chief Press Secretary to Delta State Governor, Mr Charles Aniagwu and Executive Assistant on Communications, Barrister Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe attended the training.

Spokespersons from the Air Force, Nigerian Navy, State and federal governments, Departmemts and Agencies; the EFCC, NAPTIP, NIMASA et al, were also in attendance.
