Postponement of 2019 General Elections a Setback to Democracy In Nigeria - Esiso

By DESPSOMET

The state chairman of peoples democratic party Olorogun Barr Kingsley Esiso has expressed rude shock at the way and manner in which the Independent National Electoral Commission postponed the 2019 general elections without consultation with stakeholders after giving them assurances that the elections will hold.

It is sad that we woke up to a rude shock and disheartening news of cancellation of the elections at 2am in the night. A lot of Nigerians have travelled to their various villages in order to participate in the elections that will decide their future.

Twenty years into our democracy, we ought to have improved the way we do things as a people. The Independent National Electoral Commission had for years to prepare for this election and got the support from all critical stakeholders in the Nigeria project but ended up embarrassing all Nigerians before the international community.

As a party that is on ground in the state, we have committed great resources to mobilize party agents and stakeholders in the state which is an indication of our preparedness to deliver all candidates of the peoples democratic party from President down to the state assembly elections.

Nigerians should only vote for a government that will provide security for them as well as put food on their tables. You cannot be happy when the people around you are hungry and sad as a result of insecurity and rising poverty.

Don't vote for a government that will make you suffer. If that's not the absolute truth I don't know what else is true. Nigeria now sits as the poverty capital of the world from one of the fastest growing economies in 2015.

Finally, let me assure our teaming supporters that there is no cause for alarm as the peoples democratic party remains resolute in sending home the APC led federal government come 23rd of February. You can postpone a funeral but that doesn't mean the dead will rise again after the postponement of the funeral.
