Encompass Your Vision With Knowledge, Not Illicit Wealth.
..Notes from YAVNETWORK 2019.
By Glen O. Arigi.
Youths whom are suppose to be the future generation have rescinded to corrupt and illicit practices in order to face their perceived illusions of fallacy and realities painted by the current societal norms which are unethical for societal growth, advancement and development. While this is a sorry state of our modern society, some selected youth leaders across the globe especially Africa is saying "No" to the old norms which have raped the society from ethical values and standards.
Recently at the just concluded "Young African Volunteers Network 2019" as organised by the Revive Africa Initiative, participants across the nation took a stand to affect their society positively through hard work, perseverance and dedication in a view to correct the perceived norms as "Certified Global Change Agents".
In the course of the event that lead to the certification and decision, Pastor Laurentta, Manager Mount Ned Nwoko Resort and Tourism Center and representative of Senator Ned Nwoko, made it clear that without knowledge, culture and interaction, life cannot be improved thus making youths handicap thinking that the only way out is through corrupt practices. She tasked youths to acquire knowledge and relevant skills in order to develop themselves and society.
The Director General of the Bureau of Orientation Delta State, Barr. Eugene Uzum stated that deviance amongst youth especially illicit sex and drug abuse can hinder the successful favorable growth of youths which in turn affects the society negatively. He went further to state that 14.3% of persons abuse drugs in Delta State which isn't good for societal improvement and growth. He urged youths to desist from deviant behaviors which may hinder their chance in society. He said, "You are a reflection of what you want to be".
The Commissioner for Information Delta State, Mr Charles Aniagwu opined that, "Nigeria don't need everyone but a few to make a change". This was accepted as true by the Global Change Agents. While the Commissioner was educating the Young African Volunteers, he ascertained that "Nigerian youth searches for money and not knowledge". He lamented that "Nigeria is under the table. If it's on the table, it's advancement can be discussed and achieved". He urged youths to change their mindset, attitude and vision to emerge a change agent by rendering services to humanitarian advancement and, interrogate issues as it affects the society rather than fight over it. He went further to state that, "to progress in error is detrimental to our future" .
Other notes from the event encouraged youths to be volunteers with leadership ethical values through effective knowledge sourcing, mentoring, visionary responsibility, sacrifice, plans and actions. Whatever you believe in is what determines your destiny as "Life is the color you paint it".
