States With Highest Number of HIV Carriers in Nigeria

HIV is a virus that breaks down certain cells in your immune system and make your body's defense against diseases weak.

Nigeria’s national HIV prevalence is 1.4% among adults aged 15–49 years.
Women aged 15–49 years are more than twice as likely to be living with HIV as men.
The difference in HIV prevalence between women and men is greatest among younger adults with young women aged 20–24 years.
Among children aged 0–14 years, HIV prevalence according to the new data is 0.2%. However, significant efforts have been made in recent years to stop new HIV infections among children.

Analysis:
From the above data, Akwa Ibom has the highest number of people living with HIV in Nigeria at 5.6 percent while Rivers state come a close second at 4.9 percent.
Akwa Ibom, Benue, Rivers and Taraba states have consistently been in the top four in the past 10 years.
Jigawa and Katsina has the least HIV prevalence in 2019 with a value of 0.3% each.
It is worthy of note that Nigeria has made progress in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
The number of people living with HIV has dropped from 3.2 million to 1.9 million persons as at 2019.
